Lack of Sleep Linked to Memory Problems
A recent sleep study shows that senior subjects who fell asleep faster had a better short-term memory, while those who had trouble nodding off suffered memory problems when tested this year. The study, conducted at NC State on African-American subjects aged 65 to 90, further suggests that addressing seniors’ sleep problems might help maintain their cognitive function.
This news comes as no surprise to us at Speed Sleep. Our product, after all, was created to help you fall asleep more quickly, into a sounder sleep. The Speed Sleep method will help any age person get a better nighttime rest, in order to be more alert the next day.
The potential for these findings is great, however. If addressing sleep issues could help combat dementia, Alzheimer’s or memory loss in aging patients in even the smallest way, it would be a great breakthrough. With simple treatments like audio sleep aids, sleep disorders are a manageable condition.
The head researcher on the study mentioned, “If we can better understand how sleep quantity, as well as quality, influences general cognitive functioning, perhaps we could better maintain memory throughout life — including later in life.” As modern science and medicine allow us to live longer and longer, hopefully sleep will help us maintain our memories throughout life.
