It is not at all surprising to us that a recent sleep study found that altering your bedtime habits can improve your sleep and fix minor sleeping problems. Research performed by the German Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care found that small changes can make a big difference in the quality of your sleep.

It is probably not surprising that numerous studies have found that proper sleep hygiene leads to improved sleep and can help fix sleeping problems; however, many individuals fail to take advantage of this finding. Moreover, despite the fact that improving sleep hygiene is fairly simple, many people simply ignore the basic steps and use prescription or over-the-counter sleep medications instead.

According to this recent New York Times article on choosing the right sleep medication, thirty percent of Americans report experiencing sleeping problems (and forty percent of those individuals suffer from coexisting psychiatric disorders), ten percent show signs of daytime impairment associated with a lack of sleep, and twenty percent of serious car accidents are believed to result from driver drowsiness.
