Sleep Deprivation Linked To Weight Gain

A new study has found that children and teens who get less sleep or suffer from sleep problems are more likely to be overweight or even obese, according to a report from the Archives of General Psychiatry (a JAMA - Journal of the American Medical Association - publication).

Sleep Apnea is a sleeping problem that occurs when an individual’s breathing is disrupted while they are sleeping; it is most common in men, people who are overweight, and people over forty. Left untreated, it puts the sufferer at risk for hypertension, stroke, and heart failure. Even more worrisome, a recent study has just shown that people with severe sleep apnea are three times more likely to die prematurely.
