Sleep aids - over the counter pills and prescriptions - are the primary alternatives for people looking for a quick fix to get a good amount of sleep. However, taking a sleep aid that forces the body to sleep is perhaps one of the worst ways to get an accurate and healthy amount of sleep. The human brain is not dumb; it can recognize when an artificial sleeping agent is affecting its patterns of functionality. The result of using taking a pill to get “better” sleep usually comes with multiple negative forms known on the warning labels as: side effects.

It turns out that the immune system becomes more active during sleep, which translates into a better defense for fighting off bacteria and viruses that may attack during the late hours.

Staying up late at night to catch the end of ESPN’s Sportcenter may not be such a great thing for your health. According to Yu Misao, MD, of the Misao Health Clinic in Gifu, Japan, the fewer hours of sleep that men get at night translate into a higher BMI, blood pressure, and triglyceride levels. The solution to this sleeping problem trickles down to paying more attention to bed times and the general quality of sleep.

The human brain, the most complex unit in the world, is severely affected when it is deprived of sleep. When sleeping problems occur certain parts of the brain, such as the frontal lobe, performed less appropriately and saw more difficulties in functionality. This statement shouldn’t be a big surprise to anyone because when lack of sleep is apparent, the body functions completely differently.
