The Economy And Sleep: Bad Mix
Every week, more and more announcements about layoffs and company downsizing are hitting the news stations. Financial analysts repeatedly predict that the economy will continue to suffer throughout the year leaving more people unemployed and with less money to spend. All of this tension linked to the economy has begun to develop into a health concern with millions of people losing delicate hours of sleep.
The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) recently conducted a poll that discovered about one-third of Americans are losing sleep because of the economy. The sleeping problems linked to the economy stem from a number of reasons such as: financial savings, job security, retirement, lost investments and even college education reimbursement. For people that have a job, losing sleep from financial fears is a double-edged sword because the increased drowsiness will only complicate work related issues possibly putting a job status at risk. To correct the lack of sleep dilemma, simple steps and perhaps an all-natural sleep aid will easily get a person back on their feet mentally.
The most obvious step that can be taken by somebody to improve his or her sleeping habits is by implementing a normal sleeping routine. Going to bed at the same time every night can allow the brain to rest more efficiently and be better prepared for the next morning. Another important step that will promote better sleeping is associating the bedroom with only sleep. Keep all stimulants, such as a television or a computer, out of site when going to sleep because the artificial light produced by these objects only confuses the brain, making sleep harder to achieve.
Like we mentioned earlier, the economy is predicted to get worse throughout the year. Having that in mind, improving sleeping quality is an issue that should be addressed immediately to help protect the brain’s daily functions.
